Care and guarantee
Looking after your vanity unit
Your unit is spray-painted in our Yorkshire workshop with a tough furniture paint. A little care keeps it looking new for years. Here’s everything you need to know, plus what our guarantee covers.
The painted cabinet
Everyday cleaning
- Wipe with a soft cloth wrung out in warm water and a drop of washing-up liquid.
- Dry it straight after with a clean, soft cloth. Water left sitting is the main thing that harms a painted finish.
- Wipe up splashes around the basin, the plinth and the door edges as soon as you see them.
- For grubby marks around the handles, use the same soapy cloth and a little more patience. Don’t scrub.
What to avoid
| Avoid | Why |
|---|---|
| Bleach, limescale remover, bathroom sprays | They can dull or stain the paint. If they splash the cabinet, wipe them off with clean water straight away. |
| Scourers, abrasive creams, magic sponges | They polish or scratch the satin finish, leaving shiny patches. |
| Solvents, nail varnish remover, hair dye | They soften or mark the paint. |
| Wet towels over the doors | Damp held against the paint for hours can damage it. |
| Steam cleaners | Hot steam forces moisture into joints and edges. |
Your bathroom matters too
- Ventilate. Run the extractor fan during and for 15–20 minutes after a bath or shower, or open a window. Constant steam is hard on any furniture.
- Keep the seals sound. Check the silicone where the worktop meets the wall once a year, and re-seal if it has cracked or lifted.
- Look underneath now and then. A slow drip from a waste or tap connection can go unnoticed inside the cabinet. Fix any leak straight away.
- Adjust the doors if they drop. The hinges have small adjusting screws. A quarter turn is usually enough.
Worktop, basin and taps
Solid-surface worktop
Clean with warm soapy water and dry. For stubborn marks, use a mild non-scratch cream cleaner on a soft cloth, then rinse. Keep hot hair tools off the surface, and wipe up make-up, hair dye and nail varnish remover quickly.
Basins
Ceramic basins are happy with ordinary bathroom cleaner. Rinse it off so it doesn’t run down onto the painted cabinet.
Taps, wastes and handles
Brushed brass, black and nickel finishes only need water and a soft cloth. Limescale removers and abrasive cleaners can strip these finishes.
